Welcome to the Tradescantia Hub Community! This is a forum to discuss, share, and learn about tradescantia plants and the Commelinaceae family.
I'm Avery, I run this forum as well as Tradescantia Hub itself. Check out the main website for the checklist of all Tradescantia cultivars and lots of other useful information.
This post gives the general rules for using the forum. Some specific topics have their own rules too, so make sure you check those before posting. If you're not sure how to actually use the forum, take a look at the getting started guide.
1. Be nice.
We're all just here to learn and have fun. Questions, discussions, and disagreements are great - personal attacks, bullying, and bigotry are not.
If a conversation is difficult, assume good faith and try to clarify misunderstandings before deciding that someone is being rude. This is an international forum and everyone has a different level of fluency in English, and a different culture and style of communicating.
Don't post anything illegal, including any copyrighted content that you don't have permission to use.
A note on the name "wandering Jew": no-one will be banned or penalised for using this name. But you are encouraged not to use it, because of its violently antisemitic history.
2. Stay on topic
This forum is specifically for learning and sharing information about tradescantias and the Commelinaceae family. General houseplant and gardening talk don't belong here, and neither does spam.
Make sure to use the correct tag(s) to categorise your post.
If your conversation moves away from the original topic, start a new post so you don't derail the one you're on.
It's completely fine and encouraged to respond to an old thread if you want to continue the conversation, even if there hasn't been any activity in a long time. Interaction on forums is often slow and spaced-out.
3. Be helpful
If you're asking a question, provide as much information as you can to help other people answer it. Include relevant pictures, descriptions, background information, and any details about what you already know or what you've already tried.
If you're answering a question, provide as much information as you can to help the person you're responding to. Include relevant pictures, explanations, and sources for your information.
When starting a discussion, make your title descriptive and useful so that other members know what to expect and whether they're interested.
4. Make the forum better
Flag any posts or comments that you think break these rules. It's okay to flag something you're unsure about - you won't get in trouble for making an honest mistake, and it gives the moderators the chance to look into things and make a decision.
If you break these rules, your post or comment might be edited or removed and you'll be given a warning to explain the problem. If you break the rules repeatedly or severely, your account might be suspended or permanently banned.
If you think the rules aren't working or should be changed in some way, suggestions are welcome. If you think you were given a warning by mistake or for an unfair reason, you can get in touch to appeal it.
To talk about any of these issues, start a private discussion with me (@Avery), or email hello@tradescantia.uk.
